100 Up for the Hi-Hi!
Third Lanark finished third top in Season 1960-61 and as a talented team deserved every accolade. Thirds alone scored a century of goals and left a trail of devastated defences behind them. The only defence they failed to score against in the championship was Hearts, but they took 11 goals off Clyde and 10 from Raith Rovers and Hibs. The defence however was a bit leaky, as was the way with most clubs in those days, and let in 80 goals.
During the season they were also awarded 15 penalties, all in the league except for one against Rangers in the League Cup. THe side's league run was accomplished by a group of only 18 players and five of that lot, Robertson, Reilly, Hilley, Gray and McInnes answered the roll-call in every game.
McInnes, McGillevray and Harley distinguished themselves by each scoring twice in one game from penalty kicks - Ayr, Aberdeen and Hibs being the victims.
